If you want to buy used laptop you must check a few thing. The first thing that you must check is the lcd, good lcd laptop must have a clear display, if the lcd display not clear or bright it might had trouble with the light at the bottom of lcd. After checking the display, you must check the lcd for the death pixel. Death pixel is very small dots in lcd that cannot display the right color when the lcd viewing a picture. The next thing you check is the keyboard, press every button in keyboard and check if the button you press give a respon or not. After the keyboard you have to check the optical drive in laptop. For example if the laptop have DVD-Combo drive, put a DVD on it and check how long for the optical drive to display the content on that DVD. The longer time it needed to display the content showing the condition of the DVD-Combo optical laser reader is weak. If the DVD-Combo display the content in a few second it mean the optical laser reader is good.
After checking the optical drive you can check laptop mouse or touch pad. For IBM laptop you will find a small button in keyboard known as track point that you can use to move the pointer or have same function as mouse. Use it to move pointer in the screen and check for the respond. Other brand laptop have a touch pad with two or three buttons that have a same function with a mouse. Touch the touch pad and move your finger around to test the respond and accuracy to the pointer in the screen. Move the pointer in the screen over the icon in desktop, tap your finger once or two times to test touch pad for click or executing the icon command.The next thing you check is the laptop hard drive
, execute one program, the hear the sound that came from hard drive position. If it is quiet then the hard drive is in good condition, if it is not may be have a bad sector (not good). The thing you must check next is the battery. Usualy laptop battery stand for 1 hour using in good condition. Below 1 hour the laptop battery is not good or the battery sel is damaged so it can’t save the current power even it have been recharged. Laptop also have other features such as wifi or bluetooth to check it you must go to a hot spot that have a broad band internet access, and try to connect to the network. After checking the primary thing that must in good condition you can check laptop other features, eg . modem, network card, infra red.

Selain untuk mendukung kinerja prosesor chipset pada motherboard juga telah dikembangkan untuk mendukung fitur-fitur yang terdapat dan semakin melengkapi motherboard. Antara lain chipset untuk soundcard onboard, yang berguna untuk mendukung proses pengolahan sinyal audio pada komputer. Chipset untuk audio juga telah berkembang dimana pada awalnya motherboard belum mendukung proses pangolahan audio yang terintegrasi. Proses pengolahan audio pada mulanya di lakukan oleh soundcard yang terpisah dari motherboard. Soundcard pada mulanya menggunakan slot ISA (Industry Standard Architechture) yang pada mulanya dikembangkan oleh IBM-AT, terintegrasi pada motherboard sebagai lokasi untuk pengolahan sinyal audio, tetapi kemudian berkembang dengan menggunakan slot PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect), dan selanjutnya menjadi satu atau terintegrasi dengan motherboard. Demikian juga halnya dengan VGA card, yang digunakan untuk pengolahan sinyal-sinyal video. Dari penggunaan slot ISA pada era prosesor 486, kemudian slot PCI pada era pentium I, selanjutnya slot AGP pada era pentium II dan pentium III, sampai dengan slot PCI express yang sekarang digunakan pada motherboard pentium IV. Selain menggunakan slot sebagai tempat koneksi display card ada juga yang telah terintegrasi dengan motherboard.

Bagi orang-orang yang bergerak di bidang tehnologi atau IT pasti sudah sering bergaul atau mengenal alat yang disebut dengan komputer. Komputer merupakan alat yang digunakan dalam pemrosesan berbagai macam data baik digital maupun manual. Komputer terdiri dari berbagai macam komponen yang dirakit menjadi sebuah alat. Salah satu komponen utama pada komputer yang memiliki peranan penting adalah motherboard atau mainboard. Didalam mother board berbagai macam sirkuit dan komponen antara lain chipset, transistor, kapasitor, dioda dan lain-lain. Dalam perkembangannya motherboard menjadi semakin kompleks dan canggih. Chipset yang digunakan pada motherboard telah demikian cepatnya berkembang seiring dengan perkembangan tehnologi prosesor. Pada awalnya motherboard belum menggunakan chipset yang canggih yaitu pada era pc XT, dimana komputer belum menggunakan harddisk sebagai media penyimpanan data. Chipset merupakan komponen yang mengontrol input dan output pada motherboard dan terdiri dari potongan-potongan silikon. Kemudian harddisk digunakan untuk menyimpan data yang lebih besar sehingga motherboard perlu juga dikembangkan untuk mendukungnya. Pada era awal pentium I motherboard masih menggunakan chipset yang sederhana dan jumlah yang banyak. Kemudian pada generasi pentium II jumlah chipset berkurang dan mulai chipset tunggal. Demikian selanjutnya sampai dengan era pentium IV. Chipset yang umumnya digunakan pada motherboard merupakan pengembangan dari intel dan perusahaan-perusahaan pembuat motherboard lainnya. Pada umumnya ada 3 jenis chipset yang digunakan pada mohterboard yaitu, Intel, VIA dan SIS.

Chipset Intel dikembangkan oleh perusahaan Intel Corp., sedangkan VIA adalah hasil pengembangan dan VIA Technology dan SIS dalah pengembangan dari Sillicon Integrated System. Perkembangan chipset dari masing-masing perusahaan pembuat motherboard telah menghasilkan berbagai jenis chipset. Untuk Intel misalnya telah mengeluarkan antara lain chipset sampai I82371, I810,I815, I820, I845, I865, I945 dengan I965.

VIA sebagai pengembang chipset untuk motherboard telah mengeluarkan chipset VIA CLE266, VIA8235, VIA KM400, VIA PT800,VIA PM800, VIA dan PM890. Sedangkan SIS telah mengembangkan chipset SIS 620, SIS 630, SIS 735, SIS 650 sampai SIS 661. Belakangan muncul pengembang baru untuk chipset motherboard yaitu nVIDIA. nVIDIA yang pada awalnya hanya mengembangkan chipset untuk VGA card, telah mengembangkan chipset untuk motherboard. Chipset yang telah dikembangkan oleh nVIDIA antara lain nForce, nForce2 dan nForce3.
